Throughout the year, whole or part-day visits are made to places of interest as part of normal school work. In recent years children had the opportunity to visit The Gaeity Theatre, Tanagh Adventure Centre, Local Pet Farms and Croke Park GAA Stadium.
Scoil Phádraig strives to attain the highest standards across the curriculum. Pupils from third class upward are coached to participate in the local and regional rounds of the competition and have achieved great success at these levels. The pupils develop great skills in retaining factual knowledge which can stand to them in later years when such information can be very beneficial. All pupils are encouraged to participate and from this, various teams are formed to represent the school at Junior and Senior level.
Each year pupils prepare for the quiz and take part in an open competition within the school, which takes place in January,to decide on team membership. The local Credit Union Quiz takes place at the end of January and depending on the success of the teams, the next outing may be to Cavan/Monaghan for the Chapter Level in the competition. Following success here the next stage is the All Ireland Final in the RDS.
Along with the Credit Union Quiz, pupils take part in the Cuman na mBunscoil quiz and the local Pioneer Quiz at a local level each year.
Our School Allotment
This year we plan to grow lots of delicious organic fruit and vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, lettuce, tomotoes, pumpkin, herbs and much more! Every class will have an opportunity to be involved in all stages of the allotment from the planting, growing and harvesting of the crops, right the way along until tasting time! Thanks to Helen for her continued support every year.

Healthy Eating with “The Food Dudes”
We are a healthy eating school and this is actively promoted through all classes. Children are ask to refrain from eating “junk food” as part of their daily diet. Children are also encouraged to eat fruit on a daily basis, however small the portion. We took part in “The Food Dudes” programme which rewards children for eating fruit and vegetables.
On an annual basis we have a school book fair, courtesy of Scholastic books. All classes have access to the Book Fair and the school benefits by enhancing our stock of books each year.
The Monaghan County Mobile Library visits our school annually.
Scoil Phádraig endeavours to promote the development of each aspect of the child’s development and therefore participates in many competitions and festivals throughout the year in its efforts to achieve this.
